Here is our video about Our Oakland! It will give you some background information, including Project Director Rene Yung's vision for Our Oakland, and show scenes from our second Community Storytelling Day. The event took place at the joint campus of Community Partners ACORN Woodland Elementary and EnCompass Academy, with healthy-eating community activities led by NETA (Nutrition Education Training Academy), and storytelling production by our media partners 1st Voice, Youth UpRising, and BAYCAT.

East Bay Parks at 75: Inspriration and Promise

In honor of its 75th anniversary, the East Bay Regional Park District proudly announces a new online video titled “Inspiration and Promise, East Bay Parks at 75.” Produced and narrated by Doug McConnell through his production company, Convergence Media, the 10-minute video highlights the Park District’s many parks and trails along with its unique history. Told in short vignettes, a highlight of the video includes local personalities who talk about using the parks and how this inspires them.

Kids Challenge

The 2010 Kids Challenge Program is based on the California Children's Outdoor Bill of Rights which recommends a fundamental list of experiences that every child would benefit from, before entering high school. This program is self-paced and challenges youth to complete 5 of the 10 activities listed in the Bill of Rights. Some activities require parent participation and/or additional fees. Register to receive the guidebooklet and a special prize to help you get started (1 per child, while supplies last).

There is potential on those corners

Jay tells how it used to be in the East Oakland she knew growing up, and the changes today.  She encourages us to talk TO young people, rather than AT them. "You'd be surprised," she says. "Theres a lot of talent on those corners."

This video is part 1 of an interview with Jay by our media partner First Voice Action Media at our second Community Storytelling Day, and edited into two videos with Jay's powerful observations about the community.
