It will give you some background information, including Project Director Rene Yung's vision for Our Oakland, and show scenes from our second Community Storytelling Day. The event took place at the joint campus of Community Partners ACORN Woodland Elementary and EnCompass Academy, with healthy-eating community activities led by NETA (Nutrition Education Training Academy), and storytelling production by our media partners 1st Voice, Youth UpRising, and BAYCAT.

In this picture I have chosen, I like it because I, Damoni, like how the lighting is. Also when you look at the picture, it is giving you a picture of the person in it and a beautiful background. And last of all, there is two things to look at in the picture.

Education Oakland

In Oakland, we have teachers as qualified as, or even more qualified than, teachers in suburban schools. At Media Academy for example, we have teachers from Stanford, Harvard, Cal, Cal Poly, Notre Dame, and even Purdue University's School of Engineering. Our English teacher at Media Academy, Mr. Williams, for example, has a teaching style that I rarely have seen in my whole school experiece. He is one the few teachers who try to make the students learn a whole lot of suffixes, prefixes, and word roots. His class is challenging, and that is what makes the students try harder in his class.

sideshows!

One of the most infamous events in Oakland is the “sideshow.” These events are mostly hosted at midnight on Oakland’s big intersections. What occurs during these events are dangerous stunts. Participants drive side to side down the street as if to create a slow motion technique to make their cars shine and look the best. They open doors and act crazy. Cars begin to swing their rear parts. With a loud screech of the tires and a loud roar of their engines, the car spins in circles. The loud sound of the speakers kick and tremble the trunk, and this makes the crowd go wild.

Sergio Eastside Oakland Story

I live in EAST Oakland and I am the proud owner of three great Bluenose pitbulls and let me tell you they look scary, but they would never ever hurt a fly. They only look big and bad, but they are just loving and caring animals. There is scientific proof that the most obedient breed of dogs is in fact the pitbull.

Carrots – not candy. Salad – not hot chips. Water – not soda. These are the types of healthy choices three Fremont Federation students hope their classmates will start making. The three students – Violet Souksavath of Media Academy, and Lilli Davis and Elona Everett of Mandela Academy – are part of a new campaign called Health Wellness, led by the Policy Leadership Program of School Health.
