Well, it makes me feel like not all of East Oakland is bad. It can help you get off the streets and keep you safe. I also think this image shows hard work, which can get you where you want to be in life.

This is a cool little photo of a girl's shadow. It looks interesting because you don't know who it is. But all you do know is that it's outside and it's sunny and it is a shadow. Also, it is a girl but you don't know who it is.

I was at lake Temsescal with the Allendale Recreation Center day camp and we all went swimming. I was able to take pictures on a camera and try to win an iPod. I wanted to take a good close up of my shoes and I put them on the grass and took a picture of them. I took more good pictures but this one was a nice simple photo.

"The lotus is a flower that grows in the mud. The thicker the mud, the more beautiful the lotus blooms. This idea is expressed in the Buddhist chant, nam myoho renge kyo." Walking through AW Pottery this spring in East Oakland, I was surprised to find among the towering ceramic pots, this majestic and beautiful buddhist statue. Like discovering this statue, I am constantly discovering my community.

Days after President Barack Obama signed a historic health care reform bill into law, Fremont Federation voiced different opinions about the deal.

The health reform package, estimated to cost $940 billion, is meant to extend health insurance to 32 million uninsured Americans over the next 10 years, according to the Voice of America.

We asked visitors to our booth at the CBE Love Yo Mama Earth Day celebration to share their wishes for the earth, and they showed us!

Young artists at the Our Oakland booth at the CBE Love Yo Mama Earth Day Health Fair at ACORN Woodland Elementary and EnCompass Academy got creative and showed us their favorite healthy foods -- and gave out some admonitions for healthy eating too. Check out their creations!

Our Oakland participated in the 2nd annual CBE Love Yo’ Mama Earth Day Health Fair in East Oakland last Saturday, April 24th. Part of the all day Communities for a Better Environment Earth Day celebration, the health fair took place on the campuses of ACORN Woodland Elementary and Encompass Academy, right next to the new East Oakland Community Library at 81st Avenue, currently in development. The Our Oakland story portal and kiosk will reside there when it opens.
